Second books in a series often seem to have a harder time. The first book was new and interesting. The second got too outrageous for me. There were multiple times I was feeling "really". What do I mean by that? All fantasy books have an element of surrealness that must be accepted as part of the genre. This however went too far. The story went beyond what I could accept and I found myself getting to a point where I started to disengage because of it.Product details

Black Stones of Ter Chadain Protector of Ter Chadain Book2 Volume 2 C S Yelle Devon Nichole Edwards 9780997282122 Books Reviews
Following on from where book one left off, the story picks up with Teah unable to claim her destiny and take the throne as the rightful Queen of Ter Chadain. Teah is been held on a slave ship, sailing to Caltoria with other magical slaves to have their fates determined by the evil Empress of Caltoria. Teah has no choice but to keep her true identity secret. As a slave Teah is stripped of her magical powers. When an ancient stone called a soul stone is placed on her forehead, it darkens to a deep black, marking her strongest magical in Caltoria since her ancestor the first Queen of Ter Chadain. This draws unwanted attention to Teah and puts her in great danger.
Logan the protector of Ter Chadain and a small band of rescuers, must hurry to save Teah, risking their lives and some will lose their lives in the quest. Will they be able to save Teah and Ter Chadain from falling under Caltorian rule?
The story is action packed with a huge cast of characters; lots of battles and destruction are packed into this book giving the reader a real quest of adventure that takes the reader along for the ride. A brilliant read for all fantasy fans.
In this sequel to Reclaiming Ter Chadain, the battle rages on for the kingdom and the twins' quest for the rightful heir to the throne continue. The first book set the bar and the second did not disappoint. Somehow, the stakes are raised even higher. It's hard to know if it's because there is more action or if I did not really care so much about the kingdom when it was on the line in the first book, but when the magic of the characters is at stake, look out! We were introduced to many more characters this time. Seriously, how could I not love a character named Raven or Captain Morgan? Fantastic! When I discovered that everyone and anyone is expendable and can die at any moment, this book quickly became a page-turner I couldn't put down.
It felt as though there were more battle scenes than the first. Is that even possible? The first seemed jam-packed with action. This time though the characters encountered monsters, more magical artifacts and even more obstacles. I just loved the monsters. Being in those cave and catacombs, I was reminded of Tom Sawyer and how claustrophobic I was then. Having red eyes peering at you through the dark was chilling good writing. This book may have been a little more gory than the first, but what do you expect when you're battling monsters in the dark, traveling to the belly of the beast to put the rightful heir on the throne of Ter Chadain? I stand by my recommendation for the first book This book has a little in it for everyone and is suitable for all audiences.
There's an interesting moral question here. On the one hand, enslaving a population because of a genetically-inherited trait is wrong. Yet, safeguarding a society is also necessary. In this book, these two are at odds. Which side is correct? The reader is led to believe that the slavery is wrong. I wondered if I had been empress, would I have made the same decisions? Would I have had another choice? Isn't this the very reason that most characters with superhuman qualities in other mythologies are living in secret? Otherwise, wouldn't the world know Bruce Wayne is Batman? Could it be both sides are right?
The ending is not as high of a cliffhanger as in the first book, but it is rather ominous. It's a shame I'll have to wait for it to come out. But, when it does, I'll be ready.

I thought book one was awesome, but this is even better! The characters are developed more, there are unexpected events and twists that keep you reading and wanting more! I couldn't put it down and can't wait for the next installment!
This was an interesting fantasy. The end left the reader hanging, and i really don't like waiting for the next installment. Sigh. Hopefully, the next book will be out soon.
Mr. Yelle has done it again. This second book in the "Protector of Ter Chadain" series is even better than the first, and the first book was excellent. The author has mastered the art of creating action through the use of dialog and scene description. While the action is nearly non-stop, the world of Ter Chadain comes alive to the reader and the characters in the book become your friends. A word of caution, the book does possess the small danger of causing the reader to lose sleep. After reading the first couple of pages, I was swept into this world and it would not let me go. I started reading one evening and the next thing I knew it was 200 AM and my alarm was set for 600. The book does a great job of working up to its crescendo and once you get to the last 30 or 40 pages you will be unable to put it down. Once again, the author found it necessary to end the book in such a way that the reader just has to continue to the next book to see how the twist at the end will turn out. Excellent book and a must read for anyone even mildly interested in a good Epic Fantasy.
I have to admit that the only thing disappointing about the first book was that the second was not out in print yet and it left you wanting more. The second book certainly does not disappoint. The author not only developes the characters more fully he draws you deeply into their life and their quest. This book may have been written for young adults but it has the action and intrigue that any adult would be a sucker for. I really enjoyed the plot twist and turns and have to say that I didn't see some of them coming at all. (No spoiler). Now ..... just waiting for the next one to come out!
